A Versatile Seasoning for Seafood, Soups and More

I have enjoyed using this seafood seasoning in several recipes. I originally used it for making ramen, and it added a rich, savory depth that really brought the broth together. Since then I've also used it in soups and when cooking shrimp in a broth, and every dish has turned out delicious. The smoky umami flavor enhances the ingredients without overpowering them. One thing I learned quickly is that a little goes a long way. The seasoning is well balanced, so it's best to add it gradually and adjust to your own taste. Even though it's a low sodium blend made with plant based Salicornia salt, I never felt like I was sacrificing flavor. At around eight dollars at the time of this review, I think it offers excellent value. Since I only need a small amount for each recipe, one bottle should last through many meals, making it an economical addition to the spice cabinet.Overall, this is a flavorful, versatile seasoning. It has worked wonderfully in ramen, soups, and shrimp dishes, and I look forward to trying it with fish and other seafood recipes as well.

A great seasoning

I picked this up because I'm trying to reduce my sodium intake without giving up flavor, and this seasoning does a nice job. It has a smoky, savory umami taste that pairs especially well with shrimp, salmon, and other seafood. The plant-based salicornia salt gives it plenty of flavor while keeping the sodium lower than traditional seafood seasonings.I also appreciate that it's non-GMO and made with simple ingredients. The smoky flavor is a little stronger than I expected, but it complements seafood well rather than overpowering it. I used it to make a shrimp boil and it came out delicious. If you're looking for a healthier alternative to regular seafood seasoning, this is definitely worth trying.

Very mild

I have mixed feelings about the ingredients. On one hand it contains great things like turmeric, garlic, and oregano. On the other hand it also has things like, "natural flavors" (which aren't actually natural), and a few other things I can't identify. The end result is... meh. It's good for those who need to reduce the salt content of their food. But the flavors are not very distinguishable. It's like shaking paprika on my food, and I'm not such a big fan of paprika. I don't really get much of the other flavors. At the time of this review, the price ($7.99) is kind of high for what it is. None of the ingredients are organic. Maybe Salcornia Salt is expensive? I have no idea.

Great for shrimp and salmon. Adds a nice smoky flavor.

I've used this seasoning on a few foods and I've been really happy with the flavor that the seasoning brings out. A dishes that I've put it on include baked salmon, fried tilapia, and even boiled shrimp. The seasoning has a nice smoky flavor that even reminds me of a BBQ flavor for some reason. I appreciate the low salt content of the seasoning and even when I taste the seasoning directly, I don't taste a strong saltiness to it. When I make the food dishes, I'm pretty generous with this seasoning and make sure that I get it all over. It overall cooks well with my food and compliments the fish flavor nicely. Overall, I'm pretty happy with this seasoning.

It's fine, but not a big fan

It's not bad. It's not good either though. I expected from the description that this was going to taste more like the Old seasoning that they sell in the Bay. It does not, at all. It tastes more like a well known brand name seasoning salt with seaweed added instead of salt. Salicornia salt is a plant-based salt substitute that is derived from a plant called "sea asparagus", and it has a very distinct flavor to it that is kind of bitter. I tried this with shrimp, crab, and pork chops and the bitter salicornia flavor is a little too strong for me.

Very different, very smoky

I think this is actually probably a really good multi purpose seasoning. I'm not a big seafood person, but I put these flavors in a ton of stuff. I use turmeric in almost everything for anti inflammatory. I've tried this in a few different things, most recently black bean dip. It's really really smoky. The smoked paprika really comes through. This would probably be really good on any kind of meat as it would add that smoky flavor without grilling. The bottle is a really nice quality. Glass with a wooden lid. It just looks very nice. It's got a little bit of spice to it, but I like to add a little bit of cayenne to bring the spice up, and it's quite versatile with anything that would taste good with smoke. The price and value is hard to compare. This is a pretty unique seasoning. If you're into a little spicy, a lot smoky, a little something else behind it that's different, I'd say give it a try.

Very Mild Flavor

To me, this tastes pretty bland. And there was a lot used on a small piece of fish to taste test this. And strangely, it seemed to make the fish, taste more fishey. After taking a few bites, it was so mild that I went ahead and poured some into my hand to taste it directly. And the only things I could taste were the paprika, salt, sugar, and there is a smokey flavor. So I am wondering if the paprika is actually smoked paprika. Then I went ahead and read the label, to read the ingredients, and I was actuallysurprised and confused at how little I can taste all the spices. Because I didn't taste the garlic, celery, oregano, thyme, or turmeric. It is just really paprika forward. And I am usually pretty good at being able to taste all the flavors in a dish. But I couldn't taste all the seasonings, so I wonder if it's light of some of the ones I couldn't pick out. Plus, even with the heavy paprika flavor, you would still need a tone of this seasoning to add enough flavor to your seafood to enhance the flavor. Plus, it doesn't have any kind of a kick, that's any stronger than the taste of weak black pepper. I think the best thing this could season is shrimp or a very mild white fish. On the positive side, it does taste salty with lower sodium. And if you generally like blander seasonings that aren't too spicy, this is a very mild seafood seasoning, that will add an essence of additional flavor. If you're looking for a lower sodium seasoning this might be helpful for you. I will probably be combining this with my Old seafood seasoning, just to get through it.

Tasty Low‑Sodium Blend with a Premium Jar

This seasoning has a really nice smoky umami flavor that works on way more than just seafood. I’ve used it on chicken, rice, veggies, eggs, and even sprinkled a little on potatoes, and it adds a savory boost without being overly salty. The low‑sodium blend still has plenty of flavor, which I appreciate. One thing I really love is the packaging — the glass jar with the metal and wood lid makes it feel more premium than a typical spice container. It looks great on the counter and seals well to keep everything fresh. The only reason I’m giving it four stars instead of five is that the smoky note is a little stronger than expected, so it’s best to start with a light hand and build up. But overall, it’s a versatile, tasty seasoning that fits easily into everyday cooking.

Worthy of permanent spice rack space.

Item arrived with safety seal under cap intact and wrapped in bubble wrap and tape (it prevented the glass from breaking). The selection of herbs is a great mix. I know it says fish but this tastes amazing on beef chicken and pork. I sprinkled it into my can tuna salad and it's a game changer (I recommend trying it). There is a bbq smokey flavor mixed with season salt. Its so good that I'm thankful to have a low sodium spice that's not void of salt flavor. Its non GMO and that's important to me. I love the way it smells cooking too. Priced at $7.99.

Bold lower sodium seafood seasoning

This makes a nice all purpose seafood seasoning that also works well for a variety of foods. It uses a plant based salicornia salt recipe that reduces the amount of sodium, so it's a good option for anyone looking to decrease their sodium intake. It comes in a nice glass bottle that arrived in good condition, and the price seems fair for the 2.3 ounce bottleThe flavor is a nice blend of salty, smoky, and savory that pairs well with various forms of seafood. I've tried it on grouper, salmon, and shrimp so far, and I like this as an all purpose flavor. It takes the place of salt and pepper and adds in a variety of flavors with ingredients that include black pepper, paprika, turmeric, garlic powder, oregano, thyme, and others for a bold taste that stands outIt has a shaker lid that makes it easy to use, and it really doesn't take a lot to add a lot of flavor

A+ spice blend

This is a blend of seasonings (pepper, garlic, onion) designed to highlight seafood flavors but I love it on everything. Veggies, tofu, even popcorn. The quality is excellent and it manages to have a savory taste without being loaded with sodium. I’m a huge fan of flavor, and this is packed with it.

Made in India - Contains Maltodextrin

This is a nope for me, unfortunately. This SaltWise Seafood Seasoning markets itself as made with clean ingredients, but contains maltodextrin and other ingredients that aren’t as prominently listed in the advertising photos on the product page.I’d prefer to mix up something up myself as a spice blend that uses cleaner ingredients. It’s also made in India and even though it has a quality certification, I’d recommend looking into issues with spices in that region.

If you like smoky you will like this seasoning blend

This is an innovative plant-based and low sodium seasoning mix. I was skeptical about the salt taste as a lover of all things salty, but it really tastes salty! The glass packaging is really high quality and the seasoning blend is consistent and high quality. You can use this in place of salt and pepper for seasoning veg, fish, and meat. It's intensely smoky, when you open the bottle the smoke smell hits hard. Paprika is listed in the ingredients but it must be smoked paprika because I'm not sure where else the smoke comes from. If you want to try making bbq tofu or veg bacon this seasoning will be perfect for you.I am lukewarm on smoky flavors but I still enjoyed trying this spice mix out. Give it a try if you're looking for a low sodium spice mix!

Salty, Smoky, Slightly Spicy Flavor with 1/6 the Sodium of Table Salt. Versatile & Delicious!

This SaltWise Seafood Seasoning is an tasty, innovative seasoning blend made with plant-based Salicornia salt. Salicornia plants are succulents grown in salt marshes and tidal flats all over the world. This one, apparently, is made in India. Salicornia plants absorb some salt from the salt water they grow in, so the powder tastes salty. But it has only 95 mg of sodium per quarter teaspoon, compared with the 575 to 600 mg per quarter teaspoon of standard table salt. It also contains 70mg of potassium. (But no Vitamin D, calcium, or iron—so why bother listing them?). Salicornia is touted as having superfood components, but if this green Salicornia salt has any, they are not listed. This blend is based on Salicornia salt, which is often used as seafood seasoning. But it contains a number of other ingredients as well, like paprika, turmeric, celery, and black pepper. You can especially taste the paprika. The resulting blend—expertly crafted as advertised—is salty, smoky, and just the tiniest bit spicy. The taste is relatively mild—certainly mild compared with Old Bay Seasoning!—so you can be fairly generous with it.The bottle I got arrived with the bottom smashed, in spite of being wrapped in bubble wrap inside a bubble wrap envelope. I kept it in the ER just long enough to take pictures before shuffling its empty carcass off to the bottle morgue. I tasted a bit of the seasoning that spilled out (saves cleaning!). I liked it so much that I transferred it to intact spice jars before allowing its worldly vessel to shuffle off its inanimate “immortal” coil. I used it in a shrimp and grits dish. (See photos.). Delicious! Next time, though, I think I’ll use a little more. The Salicornia works well as a salt substitute, and the blend really is very well done. I can easily see why this Salicornia seafood seasoning would be named “Salt Product of the Year”!I usually do a price comparison in my reviews, to get an idea of whether or not the product is a good deal. That is difficult to do with this one, as this was the only Salicornia salt-based seasoning I was able to find on Amazon. Seafood seasoning can be had for $1 to $4 per ounce. At the list price of $7.99 for 2.3 ounces ($2.28 per ounce), this seasoning is still reasonably priced. And low sodium and tasty to boot! What a way to go!By all means, if you are trying to cut down on sodium, try this Salicornia salt-based seafood seasoning! It is quite skillfully blended to have a delicious salty, smoky, very slightly spicy flavor profile. It makes a great substitute for traditional seafood seasoning, but could also be used in a number of other ways. And it’s reasonably priced for what it is. Here’s to your health! Bon appetit!

Deceitful list of ingredients with many chemical additives omitted

See my picture of the ingredient list on the bottle - the ingredients include maltodextrin, disodium guanylate, disodium inosinate, and citric acid — none of which are listed as ingredients in the ‘ingredients listing’ on this product page…. If I’d known these ingredients were in this - I’d never have gotten it. I think it’s incredibly deceitful when ingredients are omitted in the listing of any food products. Not only do I notmally not eat food with any ingredients like this - but I’m currently pregnant and so I’m especially not taking any chances with ingesting additives like this so this went right into the trash. I highly recommend the seller update the ingredient listing to accurately reflect the entire list of ingredients to avoid having significant backlash over a product that cannot be returned as its food.

Delicious and versatile smoky seasoning blend

This has ended up being one of my favorite seasoning blends from SaltWise. Even though it's labeled as a seafood seasoning, it's much more versatile than that.I've used it on vegan seafood substitutes like mushrooms, hearts of palm, and artichoke hearts, while my husband has used it on actual seafood. We both really liked the flavor. It has a nice smoky, savory profile with garlic and spices, plus just enough citrus to brighten everything without tasting overtly lemony. There's also a tiny touch of sweetness that helps round out the blend.Like the other SaltWise seasonings I've tried, it has plenty of flavor despite the reduced sodium. I never felt like I was sacrificing taste to get the lower-sodium version. At $7.99, I think it's reasonably priced, especially since it's versatile enough to use on vegetables, potatoes, tofu, seafood, and seafood substitutes instead of just fish. I'd definitely buy this one again.

Great flavor for those watching salt intake

I want to start off by saying that the flavor doesn't punch me in the face, but I do personally like the flavor. I used it on shrimp a few times now for tacos, burrito bowls, and a pasta. I liked it most for tacos and burrito bowls, but I think this is versatile and would work in a variety of dishes-i just tend to be shrimp girly.I think the reason for a more subtle flavor is that this is a low sodium seasoning. Salt is a flavor enhancer, and without salt some flavors aren't as pronounced. But I think this is such a high quality and great option for people who are watching their salt intake or, like me, just looking to have greater control over their salt intake. If you add salt with this (even the low sodium kind!) it will amo up the flavors.Price is below $10 ($7.99 while writing this), and I think that's reasonable for a specialized and high quality seasoning.
