This product arrived well-packaged: boxed and in a bubble bag. The box contained two glass jars, sealed, one containing white salt and the other containing green salt. I tasted both and compared them to regular salt. The white one was strongly salty and I could not distinguish it in flavour from regular salt - it had no after taste, and no salt "burn" on the tongue. The green one however, was delightful, milder and tasted of the sea. This salt is 100% plant based and made from Salicornia, which is derived from coastal vegetation known as Sea Asparagus, Glasswort and Pickleweed. The salts contain up to 50% less sodium than regular salt and naturally contain Vitamins B3 and D, as well as Magnesium; Zinc; Iron; Calcium and Potassium (which is essential for all bodily functions.) It is suitable for Vegan diets, is gluten-free and has zero additives. If you're a salt-lover, and health-conscious, this product is for you. I occasionally have fresh samphire - the very salty Salicornia europaea - with fish, steamed with a bit of a buttery sauce. Samphire's old name is glasswort, because it was used to produce soda ash (sodium carbonate) for medieval glass making; and it does contain fairly high levels of sodium along with other minerals and nutrients. Apparently the precise mineral content differs according to where the samphire is harvested, but iron, sodium, magnesium, manganese, zinc, potassium, calcium, and iodine are commonly found on analysis. I also know that samphire, along with other salty vegetables was historically used as a culinary substitute for salt. So I was very interested to try this low(er) sodium salt.I'd ordered two packs of the white salt. What I received was a pleasant surprise and presumably an introductory 'special': two packs of the white salt as ordered, plus a sample pack of the green salt and a heavy duty cotton canvas shopping tote - thank you to the sellers: much appreciated! - but be aware that's not described on the listing as what will be sent out to everyone.The white salt is a fine crystalline powder, a bit finer and less dry than regular table salt. It looks and tastes like regular salt - doing a side by side taste comparison, I could taste a very slight difference, but I'm at a loss as to how to describe it! I think it tastes a bit more like sea-water than regular table salt (presumably those extra minerals), but the difference is slight. It dissolved in cold water slightly faster than table salt. Used with food, it worked as salt does and I couldn't see or taste a difference.The green salt is quite different: it is a dry green powder; less salty, and with a grassy, vegetable flavour too; and didn't dissolve into water as easily. The Saltwise website includes a convenient side-by-side comparison of the nutrient values for regular salt and the white and green salts, where they say that the sodium levels (per 1.5g).are 588mg for regular salt, 246mg for Salicornia white salt, and 182mg for the green. Interestingly, the white salicornis salt has the highest iron content at 101.5mg , compared with 4.54mg in regular salt and 89.39mg in the Salicornia green salt.If this white Salicornis salt is used to replace regular salt, it will reduce sodium intake, but obviously not as much as the 'no-sodium' substitutes. For those like me following a low-carbohydrate diet where the need for sodium is greater, it'll need consideration of the sodium/potassion/magnesium ratios and intake to ensure you're getting enough sodium.I don't use much added salt anyway, so these two packs will last me a long time. The packs say the 'use by' date is April 2027, but I can't imagine it will go off if kept in an airtight container in a cool dark place.This salt is expensive compared with regular salts or the more usual low-sodiumsalts. However, I think the product should be only compared with other salicornia salts. On that basis, I'm not docking a star for value.Overall, if you have an interest in trying something new, I'd recommend!

A great set - you get some green salt, 2 nice sized jars of the salt ,a salt shaker , a nice tote bag and some info on the company and 2 recipes as well . This salt is far more better than you and is easy to use into diets . It's all packed and ready and can be gifted for any cooks in the kitchen, really happy with it and worth the price

The salt's full of other good stuff like potassium, minerals and vitamins.The really great thing is that this quality salt substitute contains half the sodium of regular salt - yet you'd never know it. It can be used as a table salt or in cooking. The only difference is that I'm finding it feels slightly more moist than standard salt, which isn't a problem but certainly it will need to be stored in an airtight container. Actually, that's not the only difference. The price point is admittedly rather steep but bear in mind this does and come with the tote bag.I would get this product again if the price point were right. It's good. A lot worth saying about something that may seem so simple - but I was surprised to find that the product comes from India - not California at all - and a small proportion of the sales goes back to this community of Indian women.

This salt alternative is significantly more expensive than the sodium-reduced salt available at supermarkets. So I don't think that for just reducing sodium intake, it's a good option.However, it makes a great finishing salt. It tastes salty but slightly earthy as well if you just try some on its own. It's great on steaks, sprinkled on top of chocolates. I'm using it anywhere I would use a flaky salt.The salt comes with a fabric bag, which isn't shown in the product listing. It's a nice bag and the first time I've ever received a bag with an order of salt.

This salt alternative is amazing! Im always on the lookout for healthier swaps so when I saw this I knew I had to try it! Love that it is natural and lower in sodium. The taste is great, tastes just like good quality standard salt and works so well in dishes. It also came with a sample of green salt and a free bag too, which is such a lovely touch. It is more expensive than I would usually pay for salt but considering the benefits for myself and my family I’d be happy to pay it. Would definitely recommend giving this a go :)

This is quite a remarkable product! Two different "salts" are provided - one is a "traditional white" colour and the other is a soft green colour.The white salt looks and tasted like salt. In fact, if served this product, I doubt if anyone could tell the difference. Perhaps the only giveaway - and it's slight - is the size of the grains. Over the traditional salt we use, the grains are a bit smaller - but that's it. Otherwise, this is "salt"!The green variation is a bit different. It does not look like traditional salt, and the taste is a bit different, but not what you would think - or, not what I thought. There is a definite "salt" taste, but it is combined with a "green" taste. The green taste is somewhat like grass or seaweed, but mild. That extra flavour is there, but it's not overpowering or too heavy. Lightly added to a salad, it adds a bit of extra taste to the various ingredients.To be very brief, my Mom suffered from high blood pressure. Even back in the '60's, a low sodium diet was recommend. As a result, Mom did not cook with salt, but left it to the rest of us, to salt our food after it was cooked and ready to be eaten. Because of this, I got used to very little salt - most of the time, I simply forget to add salt to my food, as I hadn't need to before. Today, I remain the same. It's mostly just habit - nothing more - but I do recognize only using small amounts of salt, is better for my health.I believe this could be a great benefit to those of use who use a bit too much salt in our lives. If you have any health concerns, I would think about talking to your health provider about too much salt, and keep this product in mind. I am always looking for anything I can do to decrease my salt intake while maintaining the good taste.I saw this package of green and white Salicornia salt by SALTWISE, and I had to give it a try.The salt arrived in a very nice gift box and includes 7.05 oz. of white and green salt derived from the Salicornia plant.They also include a tote bag and a small salt shaker.The tote bag is nice, and there is a nice and it is made by a small company that SALTWISE is trying to support.This salt alternative contains 50% less sodium and contains Vitamin B3, iron, potassium, and magnesium.For me, this is all well and good, but the important thing is if these taste good and if they will replace salt.The white Salicornia salt has a very similar texture to salt, and I did find it tastes almost identical to regular table salt, although a bit less salty. It is extracted from the Salicornia plant, and that is the only ingredient it contains.The green Salicornia salt has a more powdery consistency. It is dehydrated Salicornia powder. They describe it as an UMAMI taste. Strangely, UMAMI is one of the 5 types of tastes along with sweet, salty, sour, and bitter. It is a savory taste that to me tastes a bit fishy, like seaweed. If you are not a fan of seaweed or fish flavor, you may not like this salt.I like the taste of both of these Salicornia salts. You have the option of using the white salt if you want traditional flavor, and if you want to add an Asian, Umami taste to enhance your food's taste, the green salt is a great alternative.

I think this is a genius idea to make your food salty, while also lowering sodium levels in your food and adding a few more nutrients. Because it is not pure salt, it is said to contain 20-40% less sodium than if you would use regular table salt. Some of the other nutrients it can contain include magnesium, potassium, calcium, iron and iodine, as well as a little fibre. It would be nice if they included the iodine content on the ingredient list - it's currently not listed. I did some research and found the iodine levels in this product are: 3.67mg per kg, so that's 3670mcg per 1kg, or 367mcg per 100g. (To give you a sense of whether that's a lot or not, the RDA of iodine needed by an adult is 150mcg per day). Since you're only likely to use less than 1 teaspoon at a time (1 tsp = approx 5g), that's about 18mcg iodine per teaspoon. Or if you use a 1g pinch, that's about 3.6mcg iodine per pinch. In my research I also discovered that they lab-test this product to make sure it's safe, and have checked for heavy metals and environmental contaminants like pesticides, and their tests have found this product has these components all well within safe levels.This is a powdered vegetable that's naturally very salty since it grows in salt marshes. A while back it was very popular in gourmet restaurants to serve this veg - samphire - also known as salicornia, glasswort or sea asparagus. In this product the normally green samphire has undergone some processing to make it white so it looks more like salt.I have been using it like salt and am finding it does the job really well!I was surprised to find that when they sent this out, they also include a few bonus goodies. In the pack, alongside what I had ordered, there was also a free sample of un-whitened powdered samphire that is still green, and there was also a tote bag! A nice surprise! Honestly, I think I would prefer the green samphire since it feels more natural than the whitened powder version where I'm not quite sure what they did to it in their mysterious "patented technology" to make it white, and that makes me a bit uneasy.
